Jack

and

The
Beanstalk
Once upon a time

there
was

a
boy
called
Jack.

Jack
lived
with
his
mother.
Jack

and
his
mother
were
poor.

Jacks
mum
sent him

to

the
market

to
sell
their
cow.
On the way

to

the
market
Jack
met

an
old man.

The
old man
gave
Jack

some
magic
beans
for

the
cow.
Jacks
mum
was
angry

when
he returned

with
no money.

She
threw

the
beans
out of

the
window.
Overnight

the
beans
grew

into

a
gigantic
beanstalk.

The
next
morning
Jack
climbed up

the
beanstalk.
He
arrived

in

a
land
high up

in

the
sky.
He
found

a
house

where

an
ogre
lived.
Jack
asked

the
ogre's
wife

for
food.

She
gave
him
food,
but

the
ogre
returned.
He
shouted,“

Fee

fi

fo

fum,
I
smell

the
blood

of

an
Englishman”

The
ogre's
wife
hid
Jack.
Jack
heard

the
ogre
counting

his
money.
He
stole
some coins

and
ran
down

the
beanstalk.

Jack
repeated

his
climb up

the
beanstalk
twice more.

The
second time

he
stole
a hen which laid
golden
eggs.

The
third time

he
stole

a
magical
harp.

The
ogre
nearly caught
Jack.

The
ogre
followed
him
down

the
beanstalk.

Jack
called

his
mother
for

an
axe.
He
chopped

the
beanstalk
down,
killing

the
ogre.

Jack

and
his
mother

were
now
rich.
They
lived
happily
ever after.
